+ What are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are individual synthetic and cruelty free hair-like fibres that are adhered to your natural lash using a salon grade Health Canada Approved adhesive. They give your natural lash line more density, thickness, and length. They are great for every day wear, for special occasions, or a vacation. Say good riddance to clumpy mascara that is a pain to remove! Lash Extensions are available in different curls, thicknesses, and lengths, making styling completely customizable to the look you would like to achieve.
+ How long do Eyelash Extensions Last?
A natural lash “cycle” is approximately 6-8 weeks. This cycle is that in which our natural lashes are constantly growing, shedding, and replacing themselves. In fact, we shed 3-5 lashes per eye every single day! When a lash extension is first adhered to your natural lash, it is placed approximately 1mm from your lash line (your eyelid). As your natural lashes grow out over time, the extension grows out with it, and therefore sits further and further away from your lash line. It will eventually need to be removed and replaced with a new extension. We are also continuously shedding our older, adult lashes as well, so you will see some extensions shedding off with those during your wear. Although there are people with very fast or very slow cycles, you will usually need to come for a “Fill” appointment at around 2-3 weeks. Your ideal individual fill schedule will be easily determined during your first fill couple of of fills wearing them.
+ Will Eyelash Extensions damage my natural eyelashes?
With proper application and aftercare: ABOSOLUTELY NOT! This is one of the common questions I love to explain to my clients. Lash Extensions, when applied safely and correctly, will not cause damage to your lashes. Extensions can be safely worn for years on end. Ensuring you are having this service performed by a Professionally Trained and Certified Lash Technician is of upmost importance. A properly trained Lash Technician will do an assessment of your natural lashes and their current state of health, and then determine the safe weight and thickness of extensions that will be placed. Lash extensions should never feel heavy, hurt, or feel like they pull. They should be comfortable to wear and brush through. If you know you are someone who has a tendency to pick or pull at your eyelashes, or you are not able to maintain them with daily shampooing, then unfortunately lash extensions may not be a good option for you.
+ How long does the appointment take, and does it hurt?
When you come in for your initial set, you should expect to be here approximately 2 hours. I like to do a consultation with you before proceeding, we can discuss what type of look you desire, and I can do a thorough assessment of your natural lashes and help you choose best type of set for you. Every individual has a varying amount of natural lashes to work with. More lashes may take a bit of extra time. No it does not hurt! The entire process is actually very relaxing. Your eyes will remain closed once we begin, and the process take about 90-120 minutes. I can play music or put on a podcast. Many clients like to take advantage of this time to have a beauty nap! Fills take anywhere from 60-90 minutes, depending on which kind of lashes you are wearing and how frequently you are coming for fills.
+ How do I choose which type of set is best for me?
You're new to lash extensions, and you're ready to book in, but you're unsure of which set would suit you and what you want best? No problem! Book in for the set you are leaning toward, and we will do a thorough consultation at your scheduled appointment. I will assess your lashes and make sure we choose a set together that will meet your expectations.
+ How do I choose a Lash Technician?
Finding someone who has professional training and Certification is extremely important. Do not hesitate to ask to see this Certification! Researching your service provider is essential. Look at their photos displaying their work, look at their prices compared to other technicians in your area, and ask them how long they have been lashing for. In majority of cases, cheaper does NOT equal better. Quality products, training and Continuing Education all cost money, and this investment and subsequent experience are often reflected in a Lash Technicians prices.
+ Are Lash Extensions a lot of maintenance?
The best part about Eyelash extensions is how greatly they can shorten your morning and evening routine! You can do absolutely everything while wearing extensions; swim, workout, suntan, sweat, and sleep in them. There is minimal but important maintenance necessary. You will need to purchase a Lash Extension Shampoo. Be Lux Lash has some available for purchase. This cleanser is made specifically to be safe to use cleansing your lashes, and does not contain any oils, glycerin, glycol, or glycerol. These ingredients (which are common in many facial and eye cleansers) can slowly loosen the adhesive bonds off of your natural lash, and cause the extension to shed off prematurely. You will need to shampoo your lashes using only this Lash Shampoo and supplied cleanser brush. Cleanse every day if you wear makeup, and/or have oily skin. If you do not wear makeup, and have drier skin you can get away with cleansing every second day. This cleansing removes allergens, dust, dander, oil, and makeup that can buildup. You will then need to use the supplied lash wand to brush them daily. Cleaning them and brushing them will keep your lash line healthy and clear of debris, and your extensions full and fluffy! Clean lashes last and look better longer!
+ What should I do before coming to my appointment?
It is crucial that you come to your appointments (fills or new sets) with squeaky clean lashes. Any residual makeup, oils or dander will result in your extensions not bonding properly, and they will fall off prematurely. Clean lashes = happy lashes! Please kindly do not bring guests to your appointment, as I do not have a place for them to sit and wait. If you are arranging for a transportation to pick you up, I can let you know beforehand exactly how long we will be, so your transportation can be waiting. Thank-you for understanding.
+ What if I do not want Lash Extensions any longer?
If you decide you would like to discontinue wearing your lash extensions, you have two options. The first option is to simply let them grow out and shed off naturally. Your extensions will usually all be gone by the 6-8 week mark, as this is the length of a natural lash cycle. Do not pick or pull remaining lash extensions as this will cause damage to your natural lashes. The second option is to book in for a “Removal” appointment. The removal fee is $30.00. This process involves using a softener on the adhesive bonds, and gently removing the extensions. It is quick and simple, with zero damage to your lashes.
